Way back in the last century(1998 to be exact) I was reading an article in a trade publication that I will now paraphrase - "If one were to pile all of the construction waste created this year(1997) it would form a four foot wide by four foot high wall the entire length of the eastern seaboard and into the Gulf of Mexico". That statement put me on my present course of how I run my small company.
At the time I practiced conservation mainly through and because of Yankee thrift. Since then we have learned quite a bit about the consequences of our actions as well as a fair amount on what to do about it. Here at work we combine the advances in building science with modern and not so modern materials and techniques. By concentrating on the whole house as a system, we can build a home that is more than the sum of it's parts.

The following is a partial list of healthy home choices we employ;
Airtight envelopes - Air infiltration can account for 1/3 of heating/cooling loss.
Home ventilation - Simple mechanical systems
Non-toxic finishes - Timbers are oiled by hand with natural oils
FSC certified timber - Renewable and locally sourced timbers provide for a sustainable ecosystem and economy.
Cellulose insulation - "Dense pack" cellulose provides extremely efficient insulation while being 100% recycled content and non settling.
Balanced design - Achieved by simply bringing sustainable design and build practices up the decision tree.
